Step Gear Shaft

Step gear shafts integrate multiple gear sections onto a single shaft. Each gear section can have different modules and tooth counts, enabling multi-speed transmission in compact space. Modules range from 2.5 to 8 with tooth counts from 18 to 110 per section, each marked separately. Face widths run 20 to 75 millimeters. This integrated design saves more axial space than assembling multiple separate gears and eliminates clearance issues from key connections.

The biggest challenge in manufacturing step gear shafts is maintaining concentricity across all gear sections. Each gear section must rotate on the same axis center, with deviation not exceeding 0.05 millimeters. Our experienced setup technicians use single-setup rough machining to maintain consistent reference datum for all gear sections. Overall shaft length spans 150 to 700 millimeters with step diameters from Φ25 to Φ90 millimeters. Bearing journals follow m6 tolerance standards, and oil seal journals follow f7 tolerance standards for proper assembly fit.

Step transitions receive R3 to R8 fillets to avoid stress concentration from sharp corners. For heat treatment, gear sections receive carburizing to HRC 52-60 while shaft journals receive induction hardening to HRC 48-56. This provides wear-resistant gear teeth and journal surfaces while maintaining core toughness. Before shipment, we inspect concentricity across all gear sections on every product. Substandard parts never leave our workshop.
